From: Tiiu Johnson Subject: 1998/99 RA RATES The 1998/99 RA rates were made official yesterday. Please use the information below or the attached spreadsheets. I've attached 2 spreadsheets (1) RA rates by month (2) RA rates by month and by quarter. Summer RAs working less than 100% must register for units equal to their tuition grant (the same as in other quarters). Date: Wed, 26 Nov 1997 11:44:33 -0700 To: ee-faculty@ee.stanford.edu Subject: New EE RA rates Cc: ee-adminlist@ee.stanford.edu, dungan@soe.Stanford.EDU, brenda.sampson@forsythe.Stanford.EDU Greetings, Electrical Engineering Faculty have a number of joint appointments and supervise and support students from various departments besides EE. At the Executive Committee's last meeting, we evaluated Research Assistant stipend rates paid by Materials Science & Engineering, Applied Physics and Computer Science and found that our rates have not kept pace with most of the others. The Committee voted to revise EE's RA rates and bring them into parity with other departments. We have also streamlined the pricing structure by eliminating the current categories of Pre-MS, Post-MS and Doctoral and replaced these with Pre Quals and Post Quals. The current 50% RA monthly rates are: $1384 (Pre-MS) $1442 (Post-MS) $1487 (Doctoral) The new rates, effective January 1, 1998 will be: $1497 (Pre Quals) $1607 (Post Quals) The new rates will take effect January 1 for RAs on both existing and new contracts. Should these new rates pose an unusual hardship for any PI, please contact me to explore alternative arrangements. ERA will accommodate this global change without requiring a new RA form for each student and will accept a department list in lieu of the form. Please have your Lab administrator send a list of your RA students (listed by name, student ID number, and designated as "Pre or Post Quals") to Sharon Gerlach in Godzilla 113. This will be compared with ERA's list so that any unusual cases will be flagged appropriately. After the Quals in January, a new RA form, marked as Salary Change, will need to be submitted to ERA for students who move to the "Post Quals" status. The table comparing the rates paid by other departments is included as a Word attachment. The revised, January rate sheet is also enclosed as an Excel attachment. (This email will be followed by a hard copy distribution.)
