EE385B Seminar, May 25, 1994 Speakers: Mike Butts and Wei-Jin Dai, Quickturn Design Systems Title: Logic Emulation Technology and Practice Time and Location as usual: 12:15 pm to 2 pm, ERL 401 Abstract: A logic emulator is an array of FPGAs and programmable interconnect, with software that tech-maps, partitions, places and routes large IC design netlists into the array. This automatically-generated prototype can be used in real time, either with vectors through instrumentation, or directly in-circuit. Emulation systems can handle multi-million gate designs, using thousands of FPGAs. In this seminar we will discuss logic emulation hardware and software technology, covering interconnect architecture, including the partial crossbar and direct interconnects, software techniques for technology mapping and timing-correct compilation, the design of actual emulators, real application examples, and future directions.
