EE 385B: Seminar on Reconfigurable Architectures and Applications April 20, 1994, 1:15 pm, ERL 401 CMOS Wave Pipelining: Theory and Practice; Discussion of FPGA's The theory of wave pipelining will be briefly reviewed and experimental results of CMOS wave pipelining will be described. A maximum of 7 to 9 waves has been observed. Then wave pipelining will be compared against regular pipelining using analytical models. The trade-off between the two approaches and the combination of regular and wave pipelining, called "optimal pipelining", will be discussed. A discussion of the suggestion from M. Morf on using wave pipelining for FPGA's and the necessary design tools will follow.
