EE385B: Feb. 24,1999 Gates Room 100, 12:15 On the Equivalence of Continued Fractions and Binary Numbers Oskar Mencer Continued fractions enable straightforward computation of rational approximations of tan(x), log(1+x), exp(x),etc. The drawback is the complexity of evaluating the resulting simple continued fraction. In this talk I will show how to convert any simple continued fraction to a special form -- the M-fraction -- which can be directly converted to a binary number within the latency of 1-2 full-precision ADDs.
